Mixtape | 89

You know when you get a little stuck with what to listen to? Well thankfully I'm out of that silly rut...

Last week I took a trip back home to Newcastle to see Modern Baseball play and I was so excited. They're definitely one of my favourites at the moment yet I was also after some new music to listen to as well so I decided to have a look at who would be supporting them at the gig. After that I ended up on this big spree just hunting down different bands from similar record labels. Eventually I had complied a huge playlist of all this new stuff to listen to.

I had almost forgotten how exciting it is when you find new bands that you instantly love and rediscovering old favourites. Anyways, after noticing some stand out tracks from my other playlist I decided to make a narrowed down mixtape version of my current favourites.

Berlin | Black Sheep Cafe

When looking up places to visit in Berlin, Black Sheep Cafe was one of the first on my list. It's a 100% vegan cafe/deli and after seeing it featured on Plantbased Traveller's Kombucha video's I really wanted to head over and try it out.

On our first mission to find breakfast, this was definitely one of the places I was most excited to try out. And it lived up for sure.

The cafe itself is chilled and bright, with a very simple set up. After a little glance at what food they had on offer we went straight for their Maple Tofu Bagel and oh my goodness, it was the best thing I've ever had. I'm not even over exaggerating. The bagel itself was unreal and all the fillings together was just.. mmmm. I didn't want it to end. I still think about that bagel daily. Not even joking. Now after writing this I need to go and find some bagels, but the sad thing is they wont be as good.

Delicious bagels aside, if you ever go here also get a soya flat white because they're absolutely lovely and creamy. You'd think Dave and I were incredibly drunk or starved when we visited, but no.. we were that excited and it was that delicious..

In all seriousness though, this little place is definitely worth checking out if you're around that area or if you're planning to visit Berlin.

Last month we spent the week in Norway, relaxing in a lush little cabin, exploring nearby islands and jumping in the North Sea. I will be doing some blog posts about the trip very soon.

Mam Tor

On Wednesday I managed to persuade Dave to drive us up to Castleton as we had the day off together and I really fancied going for a wander. We ventured up to the top of Mam Tor, sat on the edge and had a little picnic whilst continuously saying 'hello' to the sheep, as you do. We didn't spend as much time up there as we wanted as it was incredibly cold and windy, although the sun was out there was also random bursts of snow and for some silly reason I don't actually own any gloves. After wandering around we decided to take a walk back down and then head into the village.

We found a couple decent hiking shops so treated ourselves to a few things for our trip to Norway next month, gloves were first on the list for sure. After that we just continued to walk around the village and naturally had a little spy on the cutest farm animals. We ended up heading home fairly early as it was bitter cold that day but I can't wait to go back in the summer and have a proper walk around Mam Tor and that whole area as the view over Hope Valley was absolutely lovely.

Have to been to Mam Tor before? I'd definitely recommend visiting.

Where are your favourite places to go hiking in the Peak District or UK in general? We're always trying to find new places to wander.

Crumbs Kitchen

The other weekend we visited Cardiff for a couple days as I had bought Dave some gig tickets for Coheed and Cambria as part of his Christmas presents. We got there for 12pm on a super rainy day and had a few hours to waste before we could check in to our hotel. After a little search on Happy Cow for some small vegetarian cafes we had almost decided where to go for lunch but then changed our minds last minute as the menu didn't look great. Now we were even more hungry we had the fun task of finding somewhere different to eat whilst being incredibly hungry and indecisive as we didn't know what we fancied but didn't want to go to the typical restaurants you find everywhere.

Eventually, we wandered near the Morgan Arcade and noticed Crumbs Kitchen straight away. Tucked away in the corner it is a vegetarian restaurant that specialises in healthy food and has the best looking salad bar I've ever seen. After pestering the staff with our indecisiveness, we eventually ordered and headed upstairs to enjoy our lunch. Now i'm not much of a restaurant/cafe reviewer but this place was absolutely lovely and I just really wanted to write a quick post as I'd definitely recommend it to anyone heading to Cardiff. Reasonably priced healthy food with sooo much to choose from in a lovely chilled environment, I wish there was something a little more like this near us.

Thor's Cave

After a lovely morning at the dentist getting root canal, I quickly got bored of sitting in the house and needed something to distract me from yanking on my very numb mouth. After a think about where to go, we decided to drive up to the Peaks and have a little explore around Thor's Cave. Although it doesn't look it from the photos the cave itself was a lot higher than we originally expected, but we managed to trek up and avoided falling down the sheer drop on the side.

Evening though it was quite a grey day we still had a great time wandering around so I thought I would share a couple pictures straight from the camera as I felt like doing a quick upload before I get wrapped up in bed and re-watch another Greys episode.
